My fellow Utahns,
It is no secret that prior to the COVID-19 outbreak, Utah was home to the greatest and most diverse economy in the nation. Now, our business community is struggling and it needs help. Congress has allocated billions of dollars to assist the small business community and from the Paycheck Protection Program alone, Utah businesses received nearly $3 billion in relief. Additionally, the state created its Utah Leads Together Small Business Bridge Loan program providing $11 million of relief to small businesses. Multiple counties and chambers of commerce have taken it upon themselves to create programs to help these small businesses as well.
I am pleased to announce that on April 15th, 2020, President Trump asked that I sit on the Opening Up America Again Congressional Group. The goal of this group is to assist and advise the President on how to best support state and local governments as they navigate the process of reopening their economies. Utah has a unique perspective to lead the country on how best to recover, rebuild, and reopen our economy to be stronger than ever.
I ask you, the people and businesses of Utah, to collaborate with me and submit any ideas or issues to consider as we begin the process of reopening up our economy. The more collaborative the efforts, the better the outcome.
